This Week: My Thoughts On the President’s Troubling Actions

Congress and the American people were made aware this week of deeply troubling actions by President Trump and his Administration. Based on the information we have so far — from remarks made by the President himself, call notes, and a whistleblower complaint — the President of the United States tried to push a foreign government to influence the United States’ elections and undermine our democracy for his own political gain.

Specifically, on a call with the President of Ukraine, President Trump urged the Ukrainian President to work with President Trump’s private attorney and the United States Attorney General — the top law enforcement officer in our nation — to try to bring down one of President Trump’s political rivals, and it appears that others in the Administration may have misused systems of national security to cover up the President’s actions.

On Thursday, the Acting Director of National Intelligence testified before the House of Representatives, and relevant committees are now engaged in a thorough investigation to get the facts.

There will undoubtedly be more news over the coming weeks, and I hope that you take the time to read the call notes, the whistleblower complaint, and other relevant information as it comes out. As I too continue to review the facts at hand, what’s critical to me is that Congress and the American public get the full facts.

As details continue to emerge, I remain committed to working across the aisle on priorities such as bringing down health care costs, combating the opioid epidemic, supporting the Granite State economy, and strengthening our national security.

I believe that now more than ever, we must remain united in our shared values and love of our state and country.
